Sweepers - Demonstration
The world is a dirty, dirty place. Be it crime, racism, or even just good ol’ fashion grime, it seems to be everywhere. Luckily for us, Philadelphia’s own Sweepers shows a way forward with “Demonstration”. Inspired by the humor of some of their city’s finest, the legendary The Dead Milkmen, the band delivers eight tracks of squeaky clean fun, and all under ten minutes.
Their barrage of mildew murder begins with the high energy “Clean Machine”. Angular and tumbling, the song’s new wave riffing is anchored by the kind of pogo-pop punk drumming that would leave Bill Stevenson blushing. However, their clean crusade does not stop there. They blast ahead, washing away the dirt encrusted facade of the American dream to reveal the ugly truth underneath: there is still dust and, therefore, they must sweep.
“Sweep It Up”, then, serves as a call-to-arms for all those sick of the muddy underbelly of American politics getting tracked onto their clean tile floors. “I’ll Wipe It” takes a brief foray into the more subdued, slacker rock of their fellow clean-freaks Wipers before swinging back into the vacuum-powered punch of “Windex” and “This Dirty House”.
Equal parts DEVO and Descendents, Sweepers creates a sound all their own as they wage their war against dirt and grime. Swiffer take note and watch out. Sweepers are now on the scene, and they’re looking to clean.
