Kinetic Orbital Strike - Kinetic Orbital Strike

When I first found grindcore at 13 years old I was unsurprisingly hooked. It became my obsession and, being young with no money outside of a weekly $10 made mowing lawns, I began to try and find as much free, similar music as I could. This led me to a hallowed bandcamp constantly updated with the likes of DOOM, Discharge, and Extreme Noise Terror. Whether those bands knew it was there or not, I consumed it all ravenously.

Philadelphia, PA’s Kinetic Orbital Strike gives me that same feeling I had when I heard Police Bastard for the first time. Not even ten minutes long, it is the kind of rapid fire, no-holds-barred d-beat you feel in your chest. Buzzsaw riffs are complimented by barked vocals as gruff as they are endearing while, like all good d-beat bands, a densely packed bass line supports it all.

And, like all good d-beat, it doesn’t worry itself too much with the niceties of dynamism. This is straightforward, ripping music meant to convey a looming existential dread. The bells and whistles, put simply, aren’t needed. One volume does K.O.S. just fine, as does one beat. With d-beat its the energy and emotion that matters anyways.

If you, like me, are more than happy with d-beat that wears its influences on its sleeve (such as the aptly named D-Clone), then Kinetic Orbital Strike will do you just fine. In fact it’ll do you more than fine. Listening to this you’ll be trying to move to a Berlin squat and grow a rat tail in no time.
